Dr Brooke Quigley offers gender affirming care for people of all ages and identities.
This includes supporting social and legal affirmation, prescribing hormone therapy (including hormone implants), and referring to surgical colleagues if desired. |
Oestrogen is the primary feminising hormone used by trans women and non-binary people.
Subdermal oestradiol implants are another form of oestrogen therapy in which fused crystalline hormone pellets are inserted under the skin. The implants are prescribed by a doctor and purchased by the patient from a compounding chemist.
Oestradiol pellets are available as either 50mg or 100mg pellets, with between 50 - 200 mg generally considered a preferred dose. Pellets are replaced every 6 - 24 months, depending on the response of the individual. The insertion procedure takes approximately 15 minutes, and is performed by Dr Quigley. Once the implant is inserted, it cannot typically be removed.
Compounded formulations of oestrogen implants are not approved by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and are therefore not subject to the regulatory conditions of approved pharmaceutical products. Pharmaceutical grade hormone therapies are manufactured by compounding chemists under strict conditions and are required to undergo rigorous testing of content purity and efficacy.
Please book an appointment with Dr Quigley to assess your suitability prior to booking for a hormone implant.
